Sample of Statement of Purpose (SOP) for a Study visa to Canada

Ref: Reapplication for student visa to pursue Motive Power Technician Course at St Clair College, Windsor

Dear Sir/Madam,

I applied for a student visa in order to pursue a course on Motive Power Technician at St Clair College but it was rejected. I may not have made matters sufficiently clear and these could have been grounds for rejection. I would like to elaborate so as to present the whole picture and enable you to reconsider your decision to grant me the student visa.

Reason 1 for rejection:

“I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as required by paragraph R216(1)(b) of the IRPR (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/sor-2002-227/ section-216.html). I am refusing your application because you have not established that you will leave Canada, “

My Clarification:

To this I would like to categorically state and declare that I have no intention whatsoever of staying back in Canada once my studies are complete. Previously, I discontinued civil engineering studies as I realized that it was not something that I wanted to do. I continued to take interest in mechanical engineering, especially motorcycles. To earn practical knowledge, I joined as auto technician trainee at Harley Davidson in Kuwait and then worked as one for some time.

I then joined Porsche AG in Kuwait as a service technician. I saw that today’s vehicles are sophisticated and call for expertise on the part of the technician. I therefore chose to pursue this course that will make me a qualified and skilled motive power technician.

My goal is to set up my own service station in India to service high end bikes & cars. This will be possible since my father and mother are working and we have sufficient funds to help me start my own venture. I find this more appealing compared to working as a technician in a service station. This way I will be close to my parents, live with my family and friends and also I will be able to hold my head high with pride since I will be the owner of a garage in India rather than an ordinary employee.

I cannot dream of setting up my garage in any foreign country since the costs will be far too high and beyond my reach whereas it is possible in India. Further, apart from this stated career objective, I have a personal reason for coming back to India. As the only son it is my filial duty to take care of my parents when they retire. Ours is a traditional family and it is the custom for parents and children to live together. My father is a finance controller and he will be there to guide me in my business.  I am sure that you will now have a clearer picture and will be satisfied that I will return to India on completion of my studies.

Reason 2 for rejection:

“The purpose of your visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details you have provided in your application.”

My Clarification:

The purpose of my visit to Canada is quite clear: I wish to pursue the Motive Power Technician course at St Clair College. The course is about automotive engineering and specifically focuses on teaching students about service and maintenance of modern vehicles.

This is consistent with my past experience and work. I worked as a motorcycle technician trainee with Harley Davidson in Kuwait and later as a service technician trainee with Porsche in Kuwait. Both these experiences gave me hands-on experience in service and maintenance of two wheelers and automobiles.

I have worked and I have learnt as I went along. However, even then, I feel that it is necessary to undergo a systematic and methodical course in order to gain skills and capabilities to handle and maintain any modern vehicle.

I have also seen that if I continue without any formal certifications I will continue to remain an employee for a long time. If I pursue this course I will have added qualifications and skills that will help me to work in a senior position, or better still, start my own service station in India. This is my plan and I intend to return to India with this qualification and become the authorized service center for leading car/bike makers in India. With this certificate and with the Porsche training I will be able to service and maintain high end cars. This is the reason why I am giving up work temporarily to pursue this course.

Reason 3 for rejection:

“Your proposed studies are not reasonable in light of: your qualifications, previous studies, mark sheets, academic record, level of establishment, language abilities, and/or your future prospects and plans.”

My Clarification:

The proposed studies are a continuation of what I have learnt so far. I have undergone motor vehicle mechanic training with Harley Davidson and with Porsche in Kuwait. They can teach only so much. It is for me to undergo systematic training which I propose to do through this course. In view of the past training in automotives this course is relevant and an extension.

As for my academic record I do admit that I dropped out of civil engineering studies as I realized later on that civil engineering was not something that I wanted to pursue. My forte was automobile. Thereofore, I did undergo training with the top automotive companies like Harley Davidson and Porsche in order to make a career as an automotive technician. The motive power technician course will give me methodic training and I will be better empowered and capable to service and maintain high end cars.

As for my language capabilities, I have passed IELTS. I have studied in the English medium since my school days and for me this is my primary language of learning and communication. I have lived in India and in Kuwait where I use English for communications.

As for my future prospects and plans, as stated above, I aim to start a motor repairs and maintenance garage in India to serve owners of Porsche, Audi, BMW and Mercedes cars. This certificate will give me the skills necessary to give the best service to customers in India. I could have remained a technician with Porsche after the training but I choose to be master of my destiny and to start my own business. When I approach car/bike manufacturers in India to take up their service and maintenance work they will want to know about my qualifications. This certificate will help and it is relevant to what I propose to do in life.

Financials

My father Sunil Ravi is the finance controller for Harley Davidson in Kuwait. My mother, Sindhu Sunil, is procurement head for Gulf Express Company in Kuwait. My father earns around CAD….per annum and my mother earns CAD 50000 per annum. We are in a comfortable position. I have taken a loan of CAD 20000 to part-finance my studies.

Our bank balance is CAD…….and we own properties worth CAD…….and assets worth CAD 66153. We have movable assets worth CAD……….and immovable assets worth CAD………..in addition to the above. I have no financial worries for this course or for my stay or for starting my business when I return to India.

My family details

I am the only son of…………..and………….Ours is a close-knit family and we have strong ties. We also have strong ties with relatives and our community. My parents have high hopes and wish to see me settling down in life and have promised to help with setting up a service garage in India.

Reasons for coming back to India

I will return to India because:

I intend to start my own business of service station for top-end cars/bike in India and be in charge of my destiny.

It is my filial obligation to take care of my parents when they retire. Further, I am Indian and traditional in my outlook. I would like to be with family and friends. Doing business here in India will give me satisfaction and I will also be close to my community.

Why I am not studying a similar course in India

It is not easy to find advanced courses here in India specifically training students to become expert motive power technicians capable of handling today’s generation of top cars like Porsche, Audi and Mercedes. These cars have sophisticated mechanics controlled by electronics and require a student to learn about both aspects. It is not easy to find such a course in India but it is available in Canada.

Please reconsider and grant me the student visa.

Sincerely Yours

Sample of visa SOP for Fanshawe College Canada

To The Hon’ble Visa Officer Canadian High Commission Ref: Reapplication for student visa to pursue Composites and Advanced Materials Aerospace Manufacturing course at Fanshawe College Dear Sir/Madam I had applied for a student visa. It was rejected apparently because I have not made my position clear. I would like to apply again and furnish detailed explanations for your consideration. My application was rejected earlier. While I sincerely respect the decision of the visa officer and the authority vested in by the Canadian Government, I beg to differ with the inferences the honorable visa officer has drawn, which have led to the unfortunate outcome of rejection of my study visa to a bona fide student such as me. This is not to cast any aspersions on your evaluation methods or personal competence at all. On the contrary, I humbly acknowledge my inability, earlier, to convince you of the sincerity and seriousness of my professional vision and mission, which is inextric...

Statement of Purpose (SOP) MSc in Management in UK

Management streamlines the technical skills to offer efficient solutions. As an engineer I know about the nuts and bolts of things. However, my practical on-the-job experience showed me that there is more to it then mere technical skills. Management is both a science and art of which engineers should be aware and familiar with. Therefore, I wish to take on this course in MSc Management as a way to improve and add another layer of skills that will work jointly alongside my engineering skills. What I wish to study and why this program I graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2016. I have learnt on the job and though self-study about enhancing engineering skills. I have also learnt about the management side such as vendor management, inventory management and, to a certain level, interfacing with customers. I wish to undertake formal education in management and learn systematically about sales, marketing, inventory, human resources and vendor management. I aim to become s...
