My Past Experience

I completed my B.E in Civil engineering in 2015 and went on to obtain an MS in Civil Engineering from Kaunas University, Lithuania, in 2017.  I then returned to India and started work as a site engineer with Co-Evolve Estates where I worked till 2019. I worked on their project CoEvolve Northern Star, a green building project where I was in full charge of supervision, coordinating the construction process, quality checks, preparing bills of quantities and cost estimates, collaborating with supervisors and contractors and sundry other tasks. I completed the project of 50 units within the time frame and cost estimate.

I joined Microfocus in 2019 and worked here till 2021 as Financial Associate. I was responsible for disbursement of claims of employees. I also handled journal entry reports, expense report generation and deriving statistics. I worked closely with the management and employees in the claims process.

I joined Recorem as Operations Lead in 2021 and worked here till 2022. I was in charge of marketing and supply operations. I handled clients and managed the website’s front end supply. I managed the operations team and also hired and trained interns in marketing. I also had the responsibility of customer generation.

I worked in three different roles and gained valuable insights into the technical side of civil engineering. While I was quite competent in the civil engineering areas I found that I did lack professional training in the management side. I decided that it is better to take time off to follow a regular course and become fully qualified and then start work with total confidence of being able to handle any challenges.

Why James Cook University

There are many universities offering MBA courses. I chose JCU because its course focuses on integration of sustainable economic, social and environmental business performance methods. Students learn to evaluate business and identify key performance metrics and apply strategies built on these into the framework.

Students study a broad range of topics on business and understand the process of decision making. The university offers six core topics covering various subjects related to business and students  can specialize in none majors including analytics and business solutions, conflict management and resolution, marketing, finance and management. The university gives students a chance to undertake a research project or serve as an intern with the university’s partners. The university’s course prepares students to be able managers.

I chose to study at JCU and Australia for several reasons. One is that the course at JCU is far better and modern as compared to what is available in India and admission is a relatively easy and fast process. The degrees conferred by the university are recognized and valid anywhere in the world because graduates have acquired proven skills. The course also prepares students to be entrepreneurs and to be able to manage their business.

Ranking of the University:

As per Times Higher Education (THE) Best Young Universities ranking, James Cook University is ranked 29th of the world's universities aged 50 years or younger.

As per Commonwealth Government's Excellence in Research for Australia 2018 National Report, JCU research is rated world-class or above in 83% of research fields evaluated.

This included the highest possible rating of well above world standard in 8 research areas and world standard in another 30 research areas.

Why Australia

The conditions prevailing in Australia are conducive and suitable for Indians and it is also not far from India whereas Canada, the USA and the UK are quite far and more expensive. Cost of living in Australia is lower as compared to other English speaking countries like the US and the UK. It is also safer here.  Some of my friends are studying in Australia and some are in the UK and the US. From their talks and experiences I find that Australia would be the better choice.  I think I can rely on my friends in Australia and their network to help me with finding accommodation. I will have some sort of support structure which greatly helps in confidence building.

My accommodation in Australia.

Initially, I will stay in a hostel for one week. After that I will search for students accommodation in the campus. My friends have told me that they will help to find accommodation in a place close to the university, possibly on sharing basis and thus reduce the financial burden. I may also look to find Bed and Breakfast accommodation with Indian families in the vicinity.

The websites like “gumtree.au”, “flatmates.au” etc. will help me in finding the nature of accommodation and living expenses in the country. Also with ample amount of Indians in Australia I would not face any problem in finding Indian grocery items and Indian stores.

Financials Strength

My father, Ramakrishnan Venkataraman is an ME and is President of Projects in Deccan Estates, a building and construction company. His monthly salary is Rs.........lakhs. Over the years we have built up immovable and liquid assets. We own properties as shown in the table below.

My father will bear part of the costs of my studies and stay in Australia. Besides, I have a scholarship of AUD........per month from the University.  I have also obtained a loan of Rs.......from the Bank of Baroda for which we have mortgaged our property. As such, I will not face any financial issues in Australia.

My family details

My father is........................a qualified engineer working as President in Deccan Estate and my mother stays at home to take care of the family. Ours is a traditional, close-knot South Indian family. We also have strong community ties. My mother is very religious and we hold ceremonies in our home and in the community. I have been brought up to cherish values such as honesty and forthrightness.

Reasons for coming back to India

I certainly will return to India after completing my studies in Australia. There are several reasons:

  • I want to be an entrepreneur and start my own civil construction business. This MBA will be vital in endowing me with managerial skills necessary to take on infrastructure projects. I am sure that with my father’s backing I will be successful. Later on, when he retires, I am sure he will be working with me as mentor and part of the family business. I think it is infinitely more satisfying to handle your own business even though it means a struggle and lots of hardship.
  • I owe a duty to my father and mother to repay them for all that they have done for me. I cannot selfishly think of staying in some foreign country while they are alone at home. It is customary in our country for children and parents to stay together and, later one, they will also have the joy of grandchildren. I believe family is essential to a person’s growth and stability.
  • India is growing and there will always be plenty of work in the civil construction side as cities expand and infrastructure is built up. I will have no lack of work and income and I will be the master of my destiny. It will also make me happy to give employment to fellow Indians and to help grow the country.

Why I am not studying a similar course in India

India is home to the IIMs, rated as some of the finest management institutions in the world but admission to these prestigious institutes is a stringent, long-drawn out process and only a few from thousands of applicants can hope to succeed. Then there are other private management courses but these are, in some way or the other, not worth it as I have found from my practical experience through interaction with graduates from such universities.

I think time is precious and one cannot afford to waste time pursuing a course only to find that it is not quite what one expected it to be. Further, if I want to get a job in a multinational infrastructure company operating in India, the Australian degree will be priceless since such companies give first preference to foreign qualified students. The JCU course is worth the extra time and effort since it will make me fully capable if I wish to work as an employee and fully capable if I wish to become an entrepreneur. If one must study then it is better to do so at the finest institution. For me, JCU is in the top 100.

The course is relevant to me since it will be an added qualification, the other side of the coin, so to speak. I have an MS in civil engineering and the MBA will complement it to make a well-rounded and fully qualified individual. I intend to become an entrepreneur and in that respect too the MBA course is relevant since an entrepreneur needs business skills along with technical skills.

Sample of visa SOP for Fanshawe College Canada

To The Hon’ble Visa Officer Canadian High Commission Ref: Reapplication for student visa to pursue Composites and Advanced Materials Aerospace Manufacturing course at Fanshawe College Dear Sir/Madam I had applied for a student visa. It was rejected apparently because I have not made my position clear. I would like to apply again and furnish detailed explanations for your consideration. My application was rejected earlier. While I sincerely respect the decision of the visa officer and the authority vested in by the Canadian Government, I beg to differ with the inferences the honorable visa officer has drawn, which have led to the unfortunate outcome of rejection of my study visa to a bona fide student such as me. This is not to cast any aspersions on your evaluation methods or personal competence at all. On the contrary, I humbly acknowledge my inability, earlier, to convince you of the sincerity and seriousness of my professional vision and mission, which is inextric...

Statement of Purpose (SOP) MSc in Management in UK

Management streamlines the technical skills to offer efficient solutions. As an engineer I know about the nuts and bolts of things. However, my practical on-the-job experience showed me that there is more to it then mere technical skills. Management is both a science and art of which engineers should be aware and familiar with. Therefore, I wish to take on this course in MSc Management as a way to improve and add another layer of skills that will work jointly alongside my engineering skills. What I wish to study and why this program I graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2016. I have learnt on the job and though self-study about enhancing engineering skills. I have also learnt about the management side such as vendor management, inventory management and, to a certain level, interfacing with customers. I wish to undertake formal education in management and learn systematically about sales, marketing, inventory, human resources and vendor management. I aim to become s...
